A member of Relais Hotels South Africa, The Bantry Bay Luxury Suites is a unique property in the portfolio. General Manager, Mark Wernich, says: “It is a superior four star hotel with the added benefit of apartment size and styled suites – intimate yet spacious. So guests can entertain in their suites or enjoy sundowners at Freddie’s Bar – it’s a casual relaxed environment flowing out onto the pool. Service is always excellent and staff pride themselves on giving guests personal attention.”

There are 41 suites to choose from in four different categories – from penthouse and deluxe suites, to duplex suites and standard compact semi-suite rooms. Most have been beautifully refreshed in a décor style that’s classic, but with a touch of urban chic to reflect the prime location of this grand property.

Seed Design owner, Lynette Monsson, personally managed the transformation of The Bantry Bay Luxury Suites to their contemporary new look. “The inspiration for the décor came from the hotel being a grand old classic boutique style establishment, so we took existing pieces and transformed them into the new look decor. We used monotone colours, like charcoals, greys and naturals to create a more striking and dramatic look. Using existing pieces and adding new items to freshen the look, meant it was a highly creative project.” Lynette adds that the new look will remain current for a good few years, because she specifically chose décor that will not date.

“I believe the base colours should be neutrals and naturals, because they are the investment pieces. Then through colour – with cushions and curtains – a look can be changed and updated. This is also more cost effective way of decorating. The golden thread running through all the suites is cream and caviar, those are the classic base colours we used.”

In the refurbishment, carpets were also replaced and existing wooden furniture was stained dark to update it. New LCD televisions and bar fridges were also installed in suites. When it came to colour, generous splashes of white in suites were added to give a more colonial/plantation feel to the décor and design. All the suites are slightly different, but all live comfortably together too. “Duplexes are more monotone, penthouses are chic, custom rooms are in burnt orange, and deluxe rooms will be decadent with touches of aubergine.” Colours are rich, yet classic; sophisticated yet reminiscent of African hues.

The reception area was also given an elegant edge with two new wingbacks and a splash of wallpaper.

With Phase 1 of the refurbishment now complete, Phase two is planned for early 2010. Then bathrooms will be refurbished by paring down tiled walls and adding accent walls, wallpaper and glass mosaic splash backs which will transform them into luxury rooms instead of conventional bathrooms.

Also part of plans for Phase 2 will be the refurbishment of deluxe rooms – in cream and caviar with rich aubergine accent colours. The transformation of the upstairs Atlantic Café is also on the schedule for next year. A modern café feel planned for the restaurant, which will more aptly reflect this upmarket establishment and its inspiring setting.

Our boardroom will be equipped with new furniture incorporating the latest audio-visual equipment to ensure that your conference or meeting meets the highest expectations.

As you may be aware, our Reception area and Freddies Bar & Lounge has previously been upgraded and refreshed. The exterior and interior areas have received a fresh coat of paint and are looking very smart.We anticipate to action all refurbishments between May and August 2009, but please be assured that our guests will not be inconvenienced in anyway.

The majority of the work will be actioned off site and returned to the hotel complete.
